Choose one of the projects described previously
What is its purpose?
How does it relate to the digital divide?
Who are its main target clients?
What are its strengths and weaknesses?
What improvements could be made?
I chose BT internet rangers as its an inpiring project which has had many success stories.
Its purpose is to help those who do not know how to use the internet, to use the internet and have fun in the process.
It relates to the digital divide because its aimed at people who have no idea about modern day technology and the internet, but its quite a smaller 'gap' in the divide in comparison to Laos for example.
There are many strengths to this program are, for one, you can choose who you help like grandparents, you have the sense of doing something good when you see the smile on thier faces after looking up friends on 'friends reunited', you can get a reward for being the 'Ranger of the Year' in which you can win a laptop and also in doing this program you get help from the orginisation itself, it gives you fun lesson plans.
The weaknesses of this program is the fact that its children who are doing the teaching, amung other things, they do not have the same teaching skills and patients as an adult/older teenager.
The only improvements I can think of is more prizes for 2nd 3rd and runners up in the end of year competition.
