Tackling the Divide : Political Initiatives

State the aim of the summit.
List 3 positive points that have come out of the summit.
List 3 negative points that have come out of the summit.
Write a short conclusion stating whether you feel it was successfull or not.

The aim of the summit was to view and discuss documents that reflect the growing awareness of leaders of the political, economic and social impact of the internet and other communication technologies.
Positives of this summit are the fact that one was actually held (with and outstanding 170 nations), that in itself is an acheivement, a good point that a member of the summit made was "You have the sense about this summit that is it a process. This is a baby that ain't learnt to walk yet, let alone reached middle age" and another good point they made "We want to reap the benefits of the internet and join the rest of the world. That is when we can truly be an information society, otherwise the digital divide will widen".
Negatives were "The outcome was hardly surprising. Getting 170 nations to agree on something as complex and diverse as the internet was virtually impossible", "We could probably do more, yes" and a personal point is the fact on the summit itself is the fact that there was no final agrrement, there needed to be some leader to organise the decisions made.

The Summit in my opinion had to be held anyway, I feel that in itself, it was successful, but the outcome was not to be desired although it was inevitable.
