To investigate whether an educational website is 'legit' you should look for certain signs, or scientific references. Signs you should look for could include a badge of a company or a well known place of learning such as a prestigus university.
There is nothing wrong with 'Hoax' websites but you must take into account that they are just hoaxes, for example the Jackolope sighting webiste is just humorous.
