2004 Tsunami

The 2004 Tsunami opened the eyes of the world to how contrasted the digital divide can be. One the first stories was that of Mr. Vijaykumar, a former volunteer at a telecenter in Nallavadu, India. He recieved word long before anyone else in Southern Asia did, so he immediatly sent to information to the telecenter. Mr. Gopu, a former associate of Mr. Vijaykumar, also sent the information to the telecenter. Quickly the community leaped into action, soon word got to the village his family were staying in among 500 other residents. Later it was found that no one had died but some 150 houses were destroyed.
